For those of you who have been following my #lipstickaday2017 Instagram challenge, you will know that this week just gone I hit the milestone of day 100! Yep, 100 days, 100 different lipsticks, and it’s only halfway through the year! Read on for my summary of the 10 best and 10 worst products I’ve tried so far. The only order to these is the order that looked the best in the photos – I’m going to save my ultimate fails and favourites for the very end of the challenge.
[Day 48] Savvy by DB Long Lasting Matte Lipstick in San Fran
Chunky formula and weirdly glittery for matte.
[Day 7] Australis Velourlips Matte Lip Cream in Ho-Chee-Min
Bad bad fluoro colour and extremely dry. I didn’t want to throw too much shade but a friend described it as “shit on my face” and I felt that was worth a mention, haha! Sorry Australis, I still love ya.
[Day 12] Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Pink Pout
Supposed to be a matte finish but doesn’t dry matte at all. Not a very flattering colour on me and overpriced.
[Day 34] Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in Asia
By no means a bad product, I just have a lot of similar shades in formulas I prefer, and I found this one had a strange, strong fragrance.
[Day 67] Avon Ultra Color Bold Lipstick in Peachy Pop
The worst thing about this lipstick is the colour. It is almost neon and not at all flattering! I can’t imagine it looked like that in the catalogue otherwise I definitely wouldn’t have purchased it.
[Day 25] MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in Steady Going
Super drying and not as long-lasting as my other Retro Mattes.
[Day 89] Maybelline Super Stay 14HR Lipstick in Neon Pink
I absolutely love the shade of this one but it was so thick and went cakey as soon as I ate. Impossible to touch up without getting even cakier and stained my lips.
[Day 32] NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in San Juan
Offensive neon orange colour. Not cute!
[Day 20] Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencil in Love My Pink
Not a nice colour on me and very strong unpleasant fragrance.
[Day 21] NYX Lip Smacking Fun Colors in Pandora
Formula is too soft so very messy to apply. Frosted finish which I personally don’t like. Colour faded pretty badly to leave an unflattering purple ring. Weird fragrance as well!
[Day 98] ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in Vice
My favourite ColourPop shade I’ve tried so far. It is the perfect nude for my pale skin as it doesn’t wash me out.
[Day 16] Shanghai Suzy Lipstick in Miss Cassandra Peony (Nourish formula)
Beautiful shade and super moisturising. Shanghai Suzy are a Melbourne brand whose products are fantastic quality, well priced and vegan, and to top it all off they smell like grape! What more could you want?
[Day 62] Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Tumultuous Pink
Estee Lauder lipsticks are very, very pricey but definitely worth it if you want to splurge. The formula is one of my all-time favourites.
[Day 84] MAC Matte Lipstick in Mehr
I love this shade on me and the formula is great for a matte – doesn’t flake or cake and not too drying.
[Day 24] Too Faced Melted Chocolate Liquefied Long Wear Lipstick in Chocolate Milkshake
Feels extremely nourishing on the lips and smells like chocolate. I wish I had a few more of these for the winter months while my lips are so dry!
[Day 33] MAC Amplified Lipstick in Girl About Town
Another fantastic lipstick from MAC. This one came as part of a set for the Christmas 2016 Nutcracker Sweet collection and is one of the prettiest products I own.
[Day 100] Ulta3 Matte Lipstick in Pink Spice
Day 100’s lipstick became an instant favourite. Excellent colour, comfortable and long lasting for only $5.
[Day 75] ColourPop Lippie Stix in Upside Down
This one came in a set of six and I was very skeptical about the shade, but I was so happy with how it looked on me. The Lippie Stix are a more comfortable formula than the Ultra Matte Lip with a similar finish.
[Day 66] NYX Liquid Suede in Sway
Incredible shade and I love the Liquid Suede formula – it gives a great matte finish without feeling too chunky or dry.
[Day 52] The Balm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Committed
Another instant favourite – comparable to Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick and more affordable.
So there you have it, a little wrap up of the first 100 days! Thank you so much to everyone who has followed the challenge so far. It has been a whole heap of fun and I’m looking forward to getting into the next half of the year. There are plenty more lipsticks where these came from! Let me know your favourite (or least favourite) lipstick in the comments.
I hope you have enjoyed this post and I’ll see you back here very soon.
